Lake “Formarin” – REFRESHING & UNIQUE
Lake Formarin, situated at 1,793 metres above sea level, is not only a hotspot for those seeking downtime, but is also the starting point of the 14.6 kilometre long section of the Lechweg trail, which stretches a total of 125 kilometres from Lech to Füssen. A convenient bus takes walkers from Lech Zürs via a toll road up to “the most beautiful place in Austria”. A short dip for the feet in Lake Formarin refreshes the body, meanwhile the soul can enjoy the magnificent panorama of this gem of nature. As well as binoculars, provisions and a drinking bottle, it is a good idea for walkers to pack a fishing rod in their rucksacks, as fishing is also allowed in this charming high mountain lake.
With its intense blue, the 15.9 hectare Lake Formarin gleams like a beautiful gem to walkers on their way to the Rote Wand. By now it is obvious to everyone that this place has something mystical and magical about it and is actually a little treasure on Earth. Every year Lake Formarin forms afresh as a reservoir for the melt waters – its outflow is subterranean.
